UPSC CSE Vacancy 2024

The total number of vacancies announced is 1056 out of which 40 vacancies are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability Category, i.e. 06 Vacancies for candidates of (a) blindness and low vision; 12 Vacancies for (b) deaf and hard of hearing; 09 Vacancies for (c) locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy; and 13 Vacancies for (e) multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (c) including deaf-blindness. The number of vacancies can be changed shortly.

These vacancies will be for the posts of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Forest Service(IFoS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), Indian Postal Service (IPoS) and many more.

UPSC CSE Notification 2024 Eligibility Criteria

The candidates must fulfill the basic eligibility criteria to appear for the UPSC 2024 Exam. To be eligible, candidates should be in the age range mentioned in the notification and should match the educational qualifications necessary to be considered for the highly prestigious positions. UPSC 2024 Nationality

(1) For the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service, and the Indian Police Service, a
candidate must be a citizen of India.
(2) For other services, a candidate must be either:—
(a) a citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee

UPSC 2024 Educational Qualification

To be eligible for the UPSC 2024 CSE exam, aspirants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a University or Institution recognized by the Government of India. UPSC has not prescribed any condition regarding the minimum marks obtained by the candidates in his/her Bachelor’s Degree.

UPSC 2024 Selection Process

The selection process for the UPSC 2024 CSE is divided into three stages: Preliminary, Mains, and Interview.

Prelims– It is qualifying in nature and tests the candidates on their general awareness and mental aptitude. It is conducted in  2 shifts on the same day. The first paper is of GS and the second is called CSAT.

Mains– It is a 5-day long exam with 9 papers, all subjective. It is a very lengthy and grueling part of the selection process. The marks scored by the candidates in this stage are the biggest factor in determining the merit list.

Interview– also known as the personality test is the most talked about portion of the selection process. It is the final stage of the selection journey and tests the candidates on multiple levels ranging from basic common sense to presence of mind.

The UPSC 2024 CSE Mains Exam consists of 9 Papers and will be conducted for 5 days. Out of these 9, two papers will be of qualifying nature i.e. Compulsory Indian Language and English. Included in these 9 are two papers of the Optional Subject which the candidates will be asked to select while filling their online application for UPSC 2024.

UPSC Syllabus 2024

UPSC Prelims Syllabus

The UPSC 2024 will be held on 16th June 2024 and will consist of 2 papers. Paper I tests the candidate’s general awareness and Paper II tests the candidates on their mental aptitude and decision-making skills. The syllabus for both papers is given below.

Paper I–  Current events of national & international importance, History of India & Indian National Movement, Indian & World Geography, Indian Polity & Governance, Economic & Social Development, Environment, and General Science.

Paper II– Comprehension, Interpersonal & Communication skills, Logical Reasoning & Analytical Ability, Decision Making & Problem-Solving, Basic Numeracy and General Mental Ability.

UPSC Mains Syllabus

The Mains exam for UPSC 2024 will consist of 9 papers in total. These papers will be of subjective type and will be conducted in pen and paper mode. Paper A– Candidates will have to choose a ‘Compulsory Indian Language at the time of filling out the application form. This paper tests the candidates in the pattern of Comprehension, Precis-Writing, Usage & Vocabulary, Short Essays, and Translation from English to the chosen Indian Language.

Paper B– This paper tests the basic English knowledge of the candidates on the topics of Comprehension, Precis- writing, Usage & Vocabulary, and short essays.

Paper I– this paper requires the candidates to write two essays in 1000-1200 words each and for 125 marks each. The candidates will be given 4 options in each of the two questions to choose from. The topics range in abstract, ethics, society, Science & Tech, International Relations, etc.

Paper II– GS I- Indian Heritage & Culture, History & Geography of the World and Society.

Paper III– GS II- Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations.
