The notice stated that a ‘Window for Application Form Correction’ was available from August 27, 2024 (00:01 hours) to August 28, 2024 (23:00 hours). During this period, candidates could make any necessary corrections or changes to their already filled application forms.

SSC Stenographer Eligibility Criteria 2024

Candidates must go through the eligibility criteria provided below. It is important to satisfy and understand the SSC Stenographer 2024 Eligibility Criteria which include educational qualification and age limit.

Nationality/Citizenship A candidate must be either:

  1. a citizen of India, or
  2. a subject of Nepal, or
  3. a subject of Bhutan, or
  4. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962 to permanently settle in India, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.

SSC Stenographer 2024 Exam Pattern

The Staff Selection Commission conducts an All India Open Competitive Examination for the recruitment of Stenographers for Grade ‘C’ (Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted) and Grade ‘D’ (Group ‘C’ Non-Gazetted) positions. Since the SSC Stenographer Grades ‘C’ and ‘D’ encompass two different levels, it is essential to address their syllabi independently.

SSC Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ Tier-1 Pattern

This is an objective exam that will be conducted online. There are 3 sections in the Tier 1 exam of SSC Stenographer Grades C’ and ‘D’. The subject-wise details are given below:

  • There is a negative marking in the SSC Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ Tier 1 Exam.
  • There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. [REVISED]
  • The exam duration is 2 hours 40 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped.
  • The questions except in Part III will be set both in English & Hindi.
  • Normalization: Marks scored by candidates in the Computer Based Examinations, if conducted in multiple shifts, will be normalized and such normalized scores will be used to determine final merit.

Skill Test in Stenography for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’

Candidates who achieve the qualifying marks in the Written Examination, as prescribed by the Commission, will be called for the Skill Test, which may also include qualifying marks for each section of the Written Examination. The Skill Test is qualifying in nature, requiring candidates to participate in a stenography test.

During this test, candidates will receive a 10-minute dictation in English or Hindi at a speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m.) for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and 80 w.p.m. for Stenographer Grade ‘D’. The transcription of the dictation must be done on a computer, and the evaluation of this transcription will be conducted electronically. The specific transcription times will be communicated in the official guidelines.

Note: Candidates who choose to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment. Failure to do so may result in the inability to clear their probationary period in the appointing departments. Additionally, candidates will be expected to work as English or Hindi stenographers based on the functional requirements of the User Office, regardless of the medium used for the Skill Test during the examination.

SSC Stenographer 2024 Important Points

  • If the candidates do not indicate the medium of stenography test in the Application Form, the Commission will consider English as the medium of stenography test for such candidates.
  • There is no exemption from the skill test for any category of candidates.
  • Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment.
  • VH candidates will be required to transcribe the matter in 75 minutes for English Shorthand or in 100 minutes for Hindi Shorthand for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘D’ and in 70 minutes for the English Shorthand test and in 95 minutes for the Hindi Shorthand Test for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’.
  • The skill test will be held at the Commission’s Regional/Sub Regional Offices or other Centers as may be decided by the Commission.
  • Detailed instructions regarding the Skill Test will be sent by the concerned Regional/Sub Regional Offices of the Commission to the candidates called for the Skill Test.
