SSC CHSL Selection Process 2019-20

A candidate looking for getting finally selected in the SSC CHSL 2019-20 exam will have to go through the following 3 stages and pass every stage to succeed. The exams will be conducted in 3 Tiers, the first being a computer-based test with 100 MCQs, the second is a descriptive paper and third will be the final stage of qualifying the Skill test/ Typing Test. SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2020 For Tier 1

The SSC CHSL Tier-I Online Examination is the first stage and consists of objective Type multiple-choice questions only. There are 4 sections namely General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language in the Tier 1 exam of SSC CHSL 2019-20, with a total of 100 questions (25 each) that account for a total of 200 marks. The subject-wise details are given below:

What will be the medium of language for Tier 1?
The questions in Tier 1 will be set both in English & Hindi except for the English section.

What is the overall duration given to complete the SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam?
The overall duration of 60 minutes will be provided to the candidates.

Is there any negative marking in SSC CHSL Tier 1?
There will be a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in SSC CHSL Tier 1.

Is there normalization of marks in SSC CHSL Tier 1?

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2020 For Tier 2

In SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam 2019-20, candidates will be facing a descriptive paper designed to test the written skills of the candidates in English/Hindi. Candidates will be experimenting with their writing skills to score marks and find a place in the final merit. The Tier 2 would comprise writing of an Essay of 200-250 words and Letter/Application writing of approximately 150-200 words. The performance in Tier-2 would be included in preparing the final merit.

What will be the total time given to the candidates?
The exam is of 60 minutes duration in which candidates have to write both letter & essay.

What are the total marks allotted to the SSC CHSL Tier 2?
The SSC CHSL Tier 2 carries 100 marks.

What is the exam duration for visually handicapped students?
The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped or suffer from cerebral palsy.

What do we need to write in the SSC CHSL Tier 2 Descriptive Paper?
The SSC CHSL Tier 2 Paper would comprise writing of:

  • an Essay of 200-250 words.
  • a Letter /Application writing of approximately 150-200 words.

What are the minimum qualifying marks required in Tier 2?
The minimum qualifying marks required in SSC CHSL Tier 2 would be 33 percent.

SSC CHSL Tier 2 Syllabus

As mentioned above, this paper requires candidates to write an essay and Letter/Application that tests the writing skills of the candidates. The essay topics will be related to National Interest, Finance & Economy, Ecological Issues, Social Issues, Politics, Schemes & Governance, Technology, Sports, Geopolitics, Environmental Concerns, etc. While, the type of letter/ application asked will be Complaint, Suggestion, Application, Official Appreciation, Follow up or Feedback, etc.

 SSC CHSL  Exam Pattern For Tier 3

The Tier 3 of SSC CGL Exam 2019-20 is the final stage and comprises of a skill test or typing test according to the post you applied for and is qualifying in nature. Although the final merit will be prepared on the basis of Tier 1 and Tier 2, it is mandatory to qualify the skill test without which one would not be selected. Candidates must go through the criteria of skill test and typing test to get information on the things required to qualify the same.
Skill Test for Data Entry Operator (DEO):
  • Skill Test is mandatory for Data Entry Operators. No candidate is exempted from appearing in the Skill Test.
  • Data Entry Speed of 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depressions per hour on Computer.
  • The Speed of “8000 key depressions per hour on the computer‟ will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/ key depressions as per the given passage.
  • The duration of the Test will be 15 (Fifteen) minutes
  • Printed matter in English containing about 2000-2200 key-depressions would be given to each candidate who would enter the same in the Computer.
  • For the post of DEO in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG): The ‘speed of 15000 key depressions per hour on Computer‟ will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/ key depressions.
Typing Test for Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant LDCs and Court Clerks:
  • Typing Test will be conducted in English or Hindi and candidates while applying for the Examination, will have to indicate his/her choice/option for Skill Test Medium in the Application Form.
  • Typing Test will be of qualifying in nature. 
  • It will be administered on the Computer, to be provided by the Commission or any agency authorized by the Commission.
  • Candidates opting for English medium should have typing speed of 35 words per minute. 
  • Candidates opting for Hindi medium should have typing speed of 30 words per minute.
  • The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.
  • Visually Handicapped candidates (with 40% disability and above) will be allowed 30 minutes.
