The Staff Selection Commission will hold a competitive examination for recruitment to the posts of Lower Divisional Clerk/ Junior Secretariat Assistant, Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant and Data Entry Operators for various Ministries/ Departments/ Offices of the Government of India. SSC CHSL 2018-19 Selection process

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will conduct the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) 2018-19 in three levels for various posts.
Tier Type Mode
Tier – I Objective Multiple Choice Computer Based (online)
Tier – II Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi Pen and Paper mode
Tier – III Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test
Wherever Applicable

SSC CHSL 2018-19 Tier 1 Exam Pattern

The Tier-I online Examination will consist of objective Type multiple choice questions only. There are 4 sections in the Tier 1 exam of SSC CHSL 2018, with 100 questions which account for a total of 200 marks.
The subject-wise details are given below:

Important Points:
  • The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for English section.
  • There will be negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong
    answer.
  • Marks scored by candidates in Tier-I will be normalized and the normalized scores will be used to determine final merit and cut-off marks.
  • The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped.

SSC CHSL 2018-19 Tier-II Exam Pattern

This is a descriptive exam that is designed to test the written skills of the candidates in English/Hindi. The Paper would comprise writing of an Essay of 200-250 words and Letter/Application writing of approximately 150-200 words. The performance in Tier II would be included for preparing merit.
Important Points:
  • The exam is of 60 minutes duration and carries 100 marks. 
  • The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped or suffer from cerebral palsy.
  • The Paper would comprise writing of an Essay of 200-250 words.
  • The Paper would comprise writing of Letter /Application writing of approximately 150-200 words. 
  • The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33 per cent. 
  • The performance in Tier II would be included for preparing merit.
  • The paper will have to be written either in Hindi or in English.
  • Part paper written in Hindi and Part in English will not be evaluated.

SSC CHSL 2018-19 Tier-III Exam Pattern

The Tier 3 of SSC CGL Exam 2018 comprises of a skill test or typing test according to the post you applied for and is qualifying in nature. Here are the details:
Skill Test for Data Entry Operator (DEO):

  • Skill Test is mandatoryfor Data Entry Operators. No candidate is exempted from appearing in the Skill Test.
  • Data Entry Speed of 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depressions per hour on Computer.
  • The Speed of “8000 key depressions per hour on computer‟ will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/ key depressions as per the given passage.
  • The duration of the Test will be 15 (Fifteen) minutes
  • Printed matter in English containing about 2000-2200 key-depressions would be given to each candidate who would enter the same in the Computer.
  • For the post of DEO in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG): The ‘speed of 15000 key depressions per hour on Computer‟ will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/ key depressions.
Typing Test for Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant LDCs and Court Clerks:
  • Typing Test will be conducted in English or Hindi and candidates while applying for the Examination, will have to indicate his/her choice/option for Skill Test Medium in the Application Form.
  • Typing Test will be of qualifying in nature. 
  • It will be administered on the Computer, to be provided by the Commission or any agency authorized by the Commission.
  • Candidates opting for English medium should have typing speed of 35 words per minute. 
  • Candidates opting for Hindi medium should have typing speed of 30 words per minute.
  • The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.
  • Visually Handicapped candidates (with 40% disability and above) will be allowed 30 minutes.
