World Adult Day 2022: Date, Significance and Facts

World Adult Day 2022: The World Health Organization (WHO) observes World Adult Day 2022 on 18th November to encourage people to coexist peacefully with adults so that society can continue to function. The necessity of the hour is to preserve the sense of belonging between the parent and child because ageing parents rely on their kids for economic, social, and psychological support.

● The population is ageing, and the majority of individuals are getting older and in need of care in all areas.
● With 80 years old, respectively, both women’s and men’s life expectancy rates have increased dramatically, which encourages more nurturing and care.
● In order to achieve the desired results of any governance, NGOs, people, etc., it is necessary to modify the day in accordance with the changing needs of the hour.
● But now let’s consider a more recent viewpoint, namely the need for Adult Day for people between the ages of 20 and 50. Due to their need for acceptance, a sense of belonging, and conformity in their environment, this age group experiences a lot of mental and social stress.

● Around 600 million individuals over the age of 60 live in the world, and the number may double over the next 11 years, according to the World Health Organization.
● In order to address the health problems associated with ageing and to foster a supportive atmosphere for them, World Adults Day is observed.
● WHO claims that Women are living 6 to 8 years longer than males do due to medical improvements and increased health awareness.
● The extension of life expectancy is a significant development in public health. Women’s life expectancy climbed from 33 years in the 1980s to approximately 82 years today—a noteworthy gain of 50 years.
● Up until 2050, there will probably be 900 million to 2 billion people who are 60 or older.
● It is obvious that elderly people today have access to better facilities and are in better condition than their parents were when they were the same age.

Discrimination against people based on their age is a problem that is more common today. This results in discriminatory behavior, age-shaming legislation, policy development barriers, poor mental health, and disrespect for the older population.
