Vocabulary is a set of familiar words in the languages known to a person. An extensive vocabulary is a useful tool in communicating and acquiring knowledge. For many people, developing vocabulary is a challenging task considering the plethora of words that can be learned. Everyone desires to have a perfect vocabulary for a comprehensive outlook.
1. SCRAMBLE (Noun) संघर्ष
Meaning: a struggle for possession or gain.
Synonyms: free-for-all, melee, rush, struggle, tussle.
Antonyms: peace, order, organization.
Example: There was a scramble for choice seats in the auditorium.
2. DOWNGRADE (Verb) अधोगति
Meaning: reduce to a lower grade, rank, or level of importance.
Synonyms: decline, declivity, descent, dip, hill, inclination.
Antonyms: ascent, improvement, increase, rise.
Example: His career has been on the downgrade.
3. SPATE (Noun) झोंक
Meaning: a large number of similar things or events appearing or occurring in quick
Synonyms: deluge, flood, flurry, outpouring, string, succession.
Antonyms: dribble, drip, trickle.
Example: A spate of words has been published on this controversial topic.
4. GAUGE (Noun) नाप
Meaning: a means of estimating or judging; criterion; test.
Synonyms: barometer, benchmark, criterion, indicator, meter, pattern.
Antonyms: calibrate, measure, scale, compute, work out.
Example: Glance over the pattern and try to gauge how much fabric you’ll need.
5. AMBIGUOUS (Noun) अस्पष्ट
Meaning: having an often intentionally veiled or uncertain meaning.
Synonyms: arcane, cryptic, dark, deep, Delphic, double-edged, elliptical.
Antonyms: abstruse, esoteric, recondite.
Example: The exact reason for the change in plans is ambiguous, but I suspect it has something to do with money.
6. STRINGENT (adjective) कड़ी से कड़ी
Meaning: not allowing for any exceptions or loosening of standards.
Synonyms: brassbound, cast-iron, inflexible, rigid, rigorous.
Antonyms: flexible, lax, loose, relaxed, slack.
Example: There are stringent rules against unauthorized persons being in our building.
7. INSISTENCE (Noun) आग्रह
Meaning: a solemn and often public declaration of the truth or existence of something.
Synonyms: affirmation, avouchment, declaration, profession, protestation.
Example: We got to know by the continued insistence that there was a massive cover-up by the government.
8. REVULSION (Noun) घृणा
Meaning: a dislike so strong as to cause stomach upset or queasiness.
Synonyms: aversion, disgust, distaste, horror.
Antonyms: fondness, like, liking, love, partiality, penchant.
Example: The publication of the autopsy photos prompted expressions of outrage and revulsion.
9. ENCOMPASS (Verb) धरना
Meaning: to form a circle around.
Synonyms: circle, compass, embrace, encircle, enclose.
Antonyms: exclude, leave (out), miss out.
Example: A necklace of sapphire-blue lakes encompasses the town.
10. EGALITARIAN (Noun) समानाधिकारवादी
Meaning: one who advocates or practices social equality.
Synonyms: democrat, leveller.
Antonyms: snob, snoot.
Example: As egalitarians, some people have always promoted policies for equal pay.
