Important Vocabulary For SSC CHSL, CGL And CPO Exam 2018: 8 March 2018

SSC CHSL Exam has already started from 4 March and will be conducted until 26 March and other exams conducted by SSC are in a loop this year which include pristine Exams like SSC CPO and and SSC CGL where dealing with English Section may demand a grip over enticingly illustrious words. 1. FUGITIVE (adjective) : भगोड़ा
Meaning: quick to disappear; fleeting.
Synonyms: transient, transitory, ephemeral, evanescent, flitting, fading, momentary, short-lived, short, brief, impermanent.
Antonyms: ceaseless, deathless, endless, enduring, eternal, everlasting, immortal, long-lived, permanent, perpetual.
Usage: For me white privilege has turned out to be an elusive and fugitive subject.

2. TAMPER (verb) : हस्तक्षेप करना
Meaning: Interfere with (something) in order to cause damage or make unauthorized alterations.
Synonyms: meddle, tinker, fiddle about, fiddle around, fool about, fool around, play about, play around, toy, trifle, dabble.
Antonyms: loosener, repair, fix, improve, expander.
Usage: Police have called for residents to be extra vigilant after a cashpoint machine was tampered with in the town center.

3. ENTRENCH (verb) : स्थापित करना (एक दृष्टिकोण, आदत, या विश्वास) इतनी दृढ़ता से कि परिवर्तन बहुत मुश्किल या असंभव हो
Meaning: establish (an attitude, habit, or belief) so firmly that change is very difficult or unlikely.
Synonyms: settle, ensconce, lodge, set, root, install, plant, embed, ingrained.
Antonyms: eliminate, eradicate, eject, expel, detach, disconnect, disengage, remove.
Usage: He is one of the rare authors who can change minds on a subject where opinions are firmly entrenched.

4. RESUMPTION (noun) : पुनरारंभ
Meaning: the action of beginning something again after a pause or interruption.
Synonyms: renewal, recovery, resurgence, recapture, reclamation, rejuvenation, resurrection, recuperation, regeneration.
Antonyms: hiatus, suspension, abolition, cessation, pause, evanescence, dissipation.
Usage: Panic filled the country with the resumption of malaria.

5. OMINOUS (adjective) : अमंगल
Meaning: giving the worrying impression that something bad is going to happen; threateningly inauspicious.
Synonyms: baleful, dire, direful, foreboding, ill, ill-boding, inauspicious, menacing, minatory, portentous, sinister, threatening.
Antonyms: auspicious, benign, bright, encouraging, favorable, golden, heartening, hopeful, promising, propitious, prosperous
Usage: The broken window was an ominous sign someone had broken into our home.

6. PATOIS (noun): जनपदीय बोली 
Meaning: the dialect of a particular region, especially one with low status in relation to the standard language of the country.
Synonyms: argot, cant, dialect, jargon, jive, language, lingo, patter, shop, shoptalk, slang, terminology.
Usage: Most words were understood by teenager, but the gentleman looked confused at some of the words due to the teenager’s patois.

7. EXPLICITLY (adverb):स्पष्ट रूप से
Meaning: in a clear and detailed manner, leaving no room for confusion or doubt.
Synonyms: clear, direct, plain, obvious, straightforward, clear-cut, crystal clear, clearly expressed, easily understandable, blunt.
Antonyms: vague, suggestive, implicit, ambiguous, circuitous, equivocal, indefinite, unspecific.
Usage: But this is explicitly the idea of the said thing as having had or as about to have existence.

8. CAVEAT (noun) : चेतावनी
Meaning: a warning or provison of specific stipulations, conditions, or limitations.
Synonyms: warning, caution, admonition, monition, red flag, alarm bells.
Antonyms: carelessness, imprudence, rashness, temerity, recklessness, abrogation, abolition.
Usage: The caveat of the contract includes a penalty fee if the loan is not repaid on time.

9. SNEAKING (adjective) : गुप्त
Meaning:  persistent in one’s mind but reluctantly held or not fully recognized.
Synonyms: clandestine, covert, furtive, private, privy, secret, sneaky, stealth, stealthy, surreptitious, undercover.
Antonyms: acknowledged, avowed, aboveboard, unconcealed, undisguised, unrestricted, clear, public, overt.
Usage: My friends wanted to sneak into the theater without a ticket, but I was too afraid of getting caught.

10. SLUMBER (noun) : अल्प निद्रा
Meaning: a sleep.
Synonyms: sleep, be asleep, doze, rest, take a siesta, nap, take a nap, catnap, drowse.
Antonyms: insomnia, sleeplessness, consciousness, wakefulness
Usage: I was certain he’d awake at the sound but his slumber was so deep he didn’t move.
