SSC Descriptive Paper TIER 2
GLOBAL WARMING: CAUSES, CONSEQUENCES AND PREVENTION
Global warming is a big environmental and social issue all over the world which is bringing out the horrible changes in the environment. To understand the term Global Warming , it is must to know that a gradual process of heating of Earth’s surface and whole environment including oceans, ice caps etc. is defined as Global Warming. In the past few years, global rise in atmospheric temperature has been clearly noticed, behind this pernicious hot issue, the most censurable cause is emission of Green house gases on large scale. And behind the emission of these deleterious gases, the denunciating factors are increasing population, increasing demand of industrialization in the modern world and use of energy. The release of its component gases like Carbon dioxide, Sulphur dioxide, Methane, Oxides of Nitrogen, Halocarbons, Chlorofluorocarbons, Chlorine and Bromine compounds collectively disturb the radiative balance of atmosphere. Because of their capability to absorb heat radiations, they cause warming of the Earth’s surface. One another petrified factor of global warming is ozone depletion means declination of ozone layer over Antarctica. Ozone layer provides protection to the Earth’s surface by inhibiting the harmful ultraviolet rays of Sun coming to the Earth. According to the statistics, it has been estimated that the size of Ozone hole has been twice the size of Antarctica by 2000.
The terrifying consequences of Global warming involves decreasing the number of glaciers, making hurricanes more detrimental. Year 2012 has been recorded as the hottest year since 1895 and year 2013 together with 2003 as the warmest year since 1880. Gradually we are facing climate changes in the atmosphere such as increasing summer season, decreasing winter season, changes in air circulation patters, jet stream, unexpected rainfall, meeting ice caps, occurrence of heavy storms, cyclones, flood, drought, and other annihilation regarding the natural disbalance being observed in daily weather conditions.
Many awareness programmes to stop Global warming have been implemented by the Govt agencies, business leaders, NGOs etc. However catastrophic repercussions of Global warming like melting of ice caps, declining health status of people, untimely loss of life caused by flood or cyclones and other natural calamities, unexpected extinction of animal and birds species can’t be revived, but keeping an optimistic vision, we must not take a step back but should make sincere efforts and take brave actions to reduce the emission of Green house gases in the atmosphere.
Instead of using electrical energy, energy produced by solar system, wind and geothermal energy should be brought in use. The alarming announcement regarding the threats to our environment even at primitive level should make obligatory in the localities of poverty stricken residences or ignorant colonies to spread the awareness. The use of public transport running on the consumption of petrol, diesel should be reduced to an appreciating level. CNG supported Transport System should be promoted. Excessive coal and oil and crop burning in large scale must be banned effectively. Make each & every effort if possible in keeping your surroundings clean and planting trees occasionally.
Save Nature, Save your Life.
