SSC CHSL Selection Process 2024

Candidates preparing for SSC CHSL 2024 need to go through the following two stages and pass every stage to succeed. The exams are conducted in 2 Tiers, the Tier 1 exam is a computer-based test based on 100 MCQs, and the second tier is a combination of both a computer-based Test and a Skill test/ Typing Test.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2024 for Tier I

The SSC CHSL Tier-I Online Examination is the first stage and consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions only. There are 4 sections in the SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam namely General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Language. SSC CHSL Tier 1 exam contains a total of 100 questions (25 each) that account for a total of 200 marks. SSC CHSL Tier 1 exam is a computer-based test and all questions will be of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) type. The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped and for general candidates, it is 60 minutes.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2024 for Tier II

The Staff Selection Commission made significant changes to the SSC CHSL Tier 2 exam pattern. Earlier the Tier 2 exam used to be conducted in descriptive mode and also there used to be a Tier 3 exam, but as per the latest SSC CHSL 2024 Notification, there are only Two Tiers now i.e. Tier 1 & Tier 2. Candidates can check the new SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2024 in the table below.

  • Tier II will be conducted in two sessions – Session I & Session II on the same day.
  • Session I will include Section I, Section II, and Module of Section III. Session II will include conducting Module II of Section III.
  • Candidates need to qualify the Tier 2 in all sections.
  • Tier II will consist of objective-type multiple-choice questions, except for Module II of Section III.
  • The question paper will be set in English and Hindi except for Module II in Section II.
  • Module-I of Section-III i.e. Computer Knowledge Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2024 Minimum Qualifying Marks

To qualify for each level of the selection process, the candidates need to clear the cutoff for each stage which is declared along with the result. SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2024 Negative Marking

When the responses submitted by the candidates are evaluated by the commission, in some cases, the score of 2 candidates results to be equal. In these cases, it is necessary to determine the rank of such candidates in spite of the same score. The resolution of such cases is done by considering the following factors.

  • Marks scored in Section-I of Tier-II Examination
  • Marks scored in Section-II of Tier-II Examination
  • Date of birth, with older candidates placed higher

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2024 for Skill Test

Although the final merit will be prepared based on Tier 1 and Tier 2, it is mandatory to qualify for the skill test without which one would not be selected. Candidates must go through the criteria of skill tests and typing tests to get information on the things required to qualify for the same.
Skill Test for Data Entry Operator (DEO):

  • Skill Test is mandatory for Data Entry Operators. No candidate is exempted from appearing in the Skill Test.
  • Data Entry Speed of 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depressions per hour on Computer.
  • The Speed of “8000 key depressions per hour on the computer” will be calculated based on the correct entry of words/ key depressions as per the given passage.
  • The duration of the Test will be 15 (Fifteen) minutes.
  • Passage in English containing about 2000-2200 key depressions would be given to each candidate who would enter the same in the Computer.

Typing Test for LDCs and JSA

  • Typing Test will be conducted in English or Hindi and candidates while applying for the Examination, will have to indicate his/her choice/option for Skill Test Medium in the Application Form.
  • Typing Test will be of qualifying in nature. 
  • It will be administered on the Computer to be provided by the Commission or any agency authorized by the Commission.
  • Candidates opting for English medium should have a typing speed of 35 words per minute. 
  • Candidates opting for Hindi medium should have a typing speed of 30 words per minute.
  • The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.
  • Visually Handicapped candidates (with 40% disability and above) will be allowed 30 minutes.
