SSC CHSL Exam 2016 : Revision of “CURRENT AFFAIRS”

West Bengal passes resolution to rename the state
i. The West Bengal Assembly passed the resolution to rename the state to ‘Bangla’ in Bengali, ‘Bengal’ in English and ‘Bangal’ in Hindi.
ii.The Mamata Banerjee government had approved the change of name to either Bongo or Bangla.





Mehbooba Mufti launched UJALA scheme in Jammu and Kashmir

i. CM, Mehbooba Mufti has formally launched the Ujala Scheme in Jammu and Kashmir with the distribution of LED bulbs. 

ii. The National LED  programme was launched by the Prime Minister in January 2015 with a target of replacing 77 crore incandescent lamps with LED bulbs.



PV Sindhu to be Commandant in CRPF


i. Central Reserve Police Force India (CRPF) has decided to appoint Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu as it’s brand ambassador and bestow the honorary rank of Commandant on the ace badminton player.

ii. A Commandant rank in the CRPF is equivalent to the position of a Superintendent of Police (SP) and such an officer commands a battalion of about 1,000 personnel, when posted in field operations.



Dogri writer Padma Sachdev gets Saraswati Samman


i. Padma Sachdev was awarded the prestigious Saraswati Samman for the year 2015 for her autobiography ‘Chitt-Chete’ in Dogri language. She was felicitated by Delhi’s Lt Governor Najeeb Jung in New Delhi on 29 August 2016.

ii. The 76-year-old poet and novelist’s autobiography, published in 2007, was shortlisted from 22 works written in as many languages published between 2005 and 2014.



First military heritage website launched

i. India’s first military heritage website, coloursofglory.org was launched by Glory Foundation at Chennai.

ii. A veteran of the 1971 Indo-Pak war, city based Captain D.P.Ramachandran who is also the executive trustee of the foundation declared the war heroes of South India held great significance to the history of India.



Bezwada Wilson, TM Krishna Win Ramon Magsaysay Award

i. Karnataka-born Bezwada Wilson, a prolific campaigner for eradication of manual scavenging in India, and Carnatic singer T M Krishna from Chennai, were chosen for the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for 2016.

ii. The Ramon Magsaysay Award is an annual award established to perpetuate former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay’s example of integrity in governance, courageous service to the people, and pragmatic idealism within a democratic society.


World’s first made-in-India leprosy vaccine out on pilot basis

i. The Indian Institute of Immunology in New Delhi has developed mycobacterium indicus pranii (MIP), an exclusive and completely domestic vaccine for leprosy.
ii. Leprosy affects around 1.25 lakhs people in India annually.
