Knowing the importance of CGL exam including all the papers, Adda247 once again is here to add more quality to your ongoing preparation where we will try to make your strategy for Paper 3 more efficient and polished.

As we know Paper 3 is of Statistics for Junior Statistical Officer (JSO), Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation. This exam demands acuity regarding calculation and apt appliance of formulas. Some candidates may juggle to come across the vying race leading you to your dream job. That’s why to help out the aspirants, we are providing a smart strategy covering important topics of Paper 3.
The sections asking for more practice, formulae revision and are scoring include the following:

Collection Classification and Presentation of Statistical Data: Primary and Secondary data,Methods of data collection; Tabulation of data; Graphs and charts; Frequency distributions; Diagrammatic presentation of frequency distributions.

• Measures of Central Tendency: Common measures of central tendency –
• Mean, Median and Mode;
• Partition values- Quartiles, Deciles, Percentiles.

Regarding the above section, you must have basic knowledge of topics like

• mean, median, mode
• Primary and secondary data,
• Partition values like Quartiles and Percentiles.

The above mentioned topics are extremely important. Not having a proper, sufficient practice and regular revision will be a sheer preposterous action by any appearing for paper 3.
Try to learn the definitions along with basic formulae. And solve numerous questions on data collections and graphs and charts.

Another important topics include:
Probability Theory under which you must be well aware of the  meaning and different definitions of Probability Compound probability; Independent events; Bayes’Theorem.

Sampling Theory which sums up the concept of population and sample; Parameter and statistic.
Have a go through of the attached topics within Sampling theory like Sampling and non-sampling errors; Probability and non-probability sampling techniques (simple random sampling, stratified sampling, multistage sampling, multiphase sampling, cluster sampling).

Correlation and Regression –Scatter diagram; simple correlation coefficient;
simple regression lines; Spearman’s rank correlation

All of these topics adjoin theoretical part and can help you to get the score easily in lesser time to ease the time dealing while facing the tougher and calculating questions from Correlation and Regression; scatter diagram; simple correlation coefficient, simple regression lines and Statistical Inference – Point estimation and interval estimation, Methods of estimation (Moments method, Maximum likelihood method, Least squares method).

For final selection, those aspirants who have opted for Paper 3 and Paper 4 need to gird up their loins. If Paper 2 is not a big deal for you then start giving  adequate time to practise Paper 3 from now on. This paper has enough theoretical portions to add up the pace required for calculation demanding question, it can help you if you continue doing an active revise of the terms, definitions and basic formulae of the sections mentioned above. Be motivated and plan each day to make time for practising Paper 2 and Paper 3 with an adequate number of hours. Solve previous year papers and mock tests for self analyzation. Prepare yourself and grab the opportunity when it will knock at your door on 18-20 January 2018.
