Sol. Dilip : Ram : Avtar = 2700 : 8100 : 7200 = 3 : 9 : 8
Let the total profit be Rs. x.
Then, Ram’s share = Rs. (9/20 x)
∴9/20 x=3600⇒x=((3600×20)/9)=8000
Hence, total profit = Rs. 8000

Q2. Sonia started a business investing Rs. 60000. After 6 months Vivek joined him with an amount of Rs. 140000. After 1 year Kirti also joined them with Rs. 120000. After 2 years the business yielded a total profit of Rs. 450000. What is the share of Vivek in the profit?

= (60000 × 24) : (140000 × 18) : (120000 × 12)

Q3. In a business, A and C invested amounts in the ratio 2 : 1, whereas the ratio between amounts invested by A and B was 3 : 2. If Rs. 1,57,300 was their profit, how much amount did B receive?

Q4. Railway fares of 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes between two stations were in the ratio of 8 : 6 : 3. The fares of 1st and 2nd class were subsequently reduced by 1/6 and 1/12 respectively. If during a year the ratio between the passengers of 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes was 9 : 12 : 26 and total amount collected by the sale of tickets was Rs. 1088, then find the collection from the passengers of 1st class?

Q6. An employer reduces the number of his employees in the ratio 9 : 8 and increases their wages in the ratio 14 : 15. If the original wage bill was Rs. 18,900, find the ratio in which the wage bill is decreased.

Sol. Let the initial number of employees be 9x and the employer gives Rs. 14y as wage to each.
Now, according to the question,
9x×14y=18900
⇒ xy=18900/(9 × 14)=150
And the late bill = 8x×15y=120xy
= 120 × 150 = 18000
∴ Required ratio = 18900 : 18000 = 21 : 20

Q7. P and Q started a business in the ratio of 2 : 3. After 1 year P left the business but Q continues. After 2 years the total profit is Rs. 26000. What is the profit of Q?

Then, Ratio of profits = (2x × 12) : (3x × 24)

Q8.A, B and C invest in a business in the ratio 3 : 6 : 5. A and C are working partners. Only B is a sleeping partner hence his share will be 3/4th of what it would have been if he were a working partner. If they make Rs 50,000 proﬁt, half of which is reinvested in the business and the other half is distributed between the partners, then how much does C get (in Rs)?

Q10. If 50 less had applied and 25 less selected, the ratio of selected to unselected would have been 9 : 4. So how many candidates had applied if the ratio of selected to unselected was 2 : 1.
