Sol.  Present age of 5 members
= (5 × 17 + 3 × 5) years.
= 100 years
Present age of 5 members and a baby
= 17 × 6 = 102 years.
∴ Age of the baby = (102 – 100) years.
= 2 years.

Q2. A batsman in his 17th innings, makes a score of 85 runs, and thereby, increase his average by 3 runs. What is his average after the 17th innings? He had never been ‘not out’.

= 85 – 3 × 17 = 34
