The status of party is accorded by the Election Commission of India, and the same is reviewed occasionally. All parties are registered with the Election Commission.A special and unique election symbol is given to every registered party by the Election Commission.

National Party(राष्ट्रीय दल)
A party has to live up to at least one of the following qualifications to be recognised as a national party:
(एक पार्टी को कम से कम एक राष्ट्रीय योग्यता के रूप में मान्यता प्राप्त करने के लिए निम्नलिखित में से किसी एक योग्यता के तहत आना होगा.)
•It has to win a minimum of two percent of the seats in the Lok Sabha from at least three different states.
(कम से कम तीन अलग-अलग राज्यों से लोकसभा में कम से कम दो प्रतिशत सीटें जीतनी होगी)
•In General Elections, the party must manage to win six percent of the votes and win at least four Lok Sabha seats as well.
(आम चुनाव में, पार्टी को छह प्रतिशत वोट जीतने चाहिए और कम से कम चार लोकसभा सीटों पर जीत हासिल करनी होगी.)
•The party is recognised as a ‘state level party’ in four or more states.
(पार्टी को चार या अधिक राज्यों में ‘राज्य स्तरीय पार्टी’ के रूप में मान्यता प्राप्त होनी चाहिए)
