National Youth Day (Yuva Diwas) is celebrated with the great joy and enthusiasm in India every year on 12th of January.

It is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, maker of the modern India.

The birthday of the Swami Vivekananda was decided to be celebrated as the National Youth Day to complete the aim of making better future of the country by motivating the youths through the way of life and ideas of the Swami Vivekananda.

Swami Vivekananda was a Hindu monk and one of the most celebrated spiritual leaders of India. He was more than just a spiritual mind; he was a prolific thinker, great orator and passionate patriot. He carried on the free-thinking philosophy of his guru, Ramakrishna Paramhansa forward into a new paradigm. He worked tirelessly towards betterment of the society, in servitude of the poor and needy, dedicating his all for his country.

It was first declared by the Government of India in the year 1984 to celebrate the birthday of Swami Vivekananda as the National Youth Day. Since then, it is started celebrating as the National Youth Day all over the country.

Department of Youth Affairs of Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, organizes every year the National Youth Festival.
The 1st National Youth Festival was held in 1995 in Bhopal. This is the 22nd National Youth Festival.

-flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE)
-objective is to enable a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood.
Khelo India Programme
-Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. “Sport for All”.
-for athletes training.

UDAAN :
– Special Industry Initiative for Jammu & Kashmir in the nature of partnership between the
corporates of India and Ministry of Home Affairs.
-implemented by National Skill Development Corporation
-aims to provide skills training and enhance the employability of unemployed youth of J&K. The
Scheme covers graduates, post graduates and three year engineering diploma holders.
