Indian Army Ranks for Commissioned Officers
The highest-rank of the Indian Army is the rank of General, held by the Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army (COAS). New officers in the Indian Army are commissioned at Lieutenant rank. The cadets recruited through NDA examination are appointed at the post of Lieutenant. Later on, they move up higher on the ranks depending upon the years of service.
