UN Election
The election for the five temporary seats of the Security Council is special this time in many ways. In the UN office, which has been closed for the last three months amid the Corona crisis, there have been no meetings for the last three months. At the same time, due to social distancing provisions, this time the election of Security Council members will run for three days, in which elections are to be held for different regional representations.
Security Council members are elected in the United Nations General Assembly through the secret ballot under the prescribed election process. This time, in the midst of the Kovid crisis, there was also an attempt to elect countries like India standing without competition from Silent Procedure in which they would be declared elected unopposed if there was no objection for a specified period. However, many countries were of the opinion that it is better to follow the traditional process of Security Council elections.
