How To Score Good Marks In LETTER Writing? SSC MTS Tier-2 | SSC CGL Tier-3

SSC has declared the result of SSC CGL Tier 2 and MTS Tier 1. Now, SSC will conduct SSC CGL 2018 Tier 3 Exam on 29th December 2019 and SSC MTS Tier 2 Exam on 24th November 2019. Candidates who have made through the Tier 2 of SSC CGL and Tier 1 of SSC MTS must have started their preparation for the descriptive test. Tier 3 of SSC CGL and Tier 2 of SSC MTS is descriptive in nature unlike the other stages of examination that are objective in nature. Both the exam has a different level. This article is dedicated to providing you with the points to score well in the letter writing part of the descriptive paper of the SSC Exam.

SSC Descriptive Paper: Letter Writing Format To Follow In Exam

Before starting the initials, let us tell you that whether you are preparing for SSC CGL or SSC MTS, you have to follow the same procedures for the letter-writing portion. SSC have both formal and informal letter in the bucket. So, the candidate needs to understand the exact format of the letter. There is two types of letter asked by the SSC in its descriptive exam: Formal and Informal.

Format of Formal Letter Writing

This type of letter demands a more strong presence of vocabulary and format. Here is the step by step Format for Formal:

  • Write your (sender’s) address and today’s date at the top of the page, on the left corner.
  • Make sure you write the full date in any Standard Format like 20 November 2019 or November 20, 2019.
  • Write the name and address of the recipient.
  • Write The Subject of the letter.
  • Write the salutation “Sir” or “Madam”
  • Write the body of the letter.
  • Write Your’s truly or Your’s Faithfully in the end in the left corner.
  • Write your name and designation followed by the above step on the left corner.

Remember to Keep the letter open with a clear statement of purpose.

Informal Letter Writing Format

This type of letter writing is more friendly as it is to be written to friends, family members or relatives. Here is the detail:

  • Write your (sender’s) address and today’s date at the top of the page, on the left corner.
  • Make sure you write the full date in any Standard Format like 20 November 2019 or November 20, 2019.
  • Write the name and address of the recipient.
  • Write The Subject of the letter.
  • Write the salutation (My Dear Friend/My Dear Brother)
  • Write the body of the letter.
  • Write “With Best Wishes” in the end in the left corner.
  • Write your name (Sender’s Name)

Important Points To Score Marks In Letter Writing

Stic to the Format: The first and foremost thing that is noticed by an examiner in a letter is the format. So, candidates are advised to stick to the prescribed by the format of the letter whether its a formal letter or informal. If you do not stick to the format, the chances for losing marks is obvious.

Word Limit: The descriptive paper of SSC consist of 50 marks for SSC MTS and 100 marks for SSC CGL. Word limit is written with the question and a candidate is advised to not go beyond the word limit because it does no good. Sticking to the format and word limit will help you score well in the letter writing.

Practice: Practice is the key to succeed in any examination. Especially when we talk about the descriptive test, the role of practice increases. Make sure you read all the topics and practice enough before appearing for the actual exam. Write a letter on daily basis. Check if you are able to complete the paper within the prescribed time limit. Use sheets as in the actual exam and write on them for thorough practice.

Be To The Point: Don’t write any un-necessary thing in the Letter. Stic to the topic and write in flow. Do not change the rythm. Writing in to the point makes your content look attractive and helps in fetching marks easily. Keep your letter short and direct.

Proofread: After writing a letter, read the letter once again to check the grammar and spellings. This will help in eliminating unnecessary error.

Time Management: Time management is an important criteria when it comes for the descriptive test. set time as prescribed for the examination and practice papers accordingly. Time management will save you from hussle.
