1.Prelude
Meaning: an action or event serving as an introduction to something more important.
Synonym: preliminary, overture, opening, preparation
Antonym:conclusion, postscript
Sentence: “a ceasefire had been agreed as a prelude to full peace negotiations”



2.Premonition
Meaning: a strong feeling that something is about to happen, especially something 
unpleasant.
Synonym: foreboding, presage, presentiment, prognostication
Sentence: “he had a premonition of imminent disaster”

3.Preponderance
Meaning: the quality or fact of being greater in number, quantity, or importance.
Synonym: prevalence, predominance, dominance 
Sentence: “the preponderance of women among older people”

4. Soporific
Meaning: tending to induce drowsiness or sleep., a drug or other substance that 
induces drowsiness or sleep.
Synonym: sleeping pill, sleeping potion, sedative, calmative, narcotic, opiate;
Antonym: invigorating,  stimulant
Sentence: “the motion of the train had a somewhat soporific effect”

5. Orthodox
Meaning: following or conforming to the traditional or generally accepted rules 
or beliefs of a religion, philosophy, or practice.
Synonym: conservative, traditional, observant, conformist
Antonym: unconventional, unorthodox, nonconformist
Sentence: “Burke’s views were orthodox in his time”

6.Puerile
Meaning: childishly silly and immature
Synonym: jejune, infantile 
Antonym: mature, adult
Sentence: “a puerile argument”

7.Perennial
Meaning: lasting or existing for a long or apparently infinite time; enduring or continually recurring
Synonym: everlasting, perpetual, eternal,
Antonym: ceasing, ending, halting, infrequent, intermittent, interrupted, occasional, temporary

8.Perdition
Meaning: (in Christian theology) a state of eternal punishment and damnation into 
which a sinful and unrepentant person passes after death
Synonym: damnation, eternal punishment;
Sentence:”she used her last banknote to buy herself a square meal before 
perdition”

9. Penury
Meaning: the state of being very poor; extreme poverty.
Synonym: pennilessness, impecuniousness, impoverishment, indigence,
Antonym: wealth, affluence
Sentence: “he couldn’t face another year of penury”

10.Laggard
Meaning: a person who makes slow progress and falls behind others.
Synonym: straggler, loiterer, lingerer,
Sentence: “staff were under enormous pressure and there was no time for 
laggards”
