Hello, Greetings!! SSC CGL Pre 2017 will commence in the month of June/July 2017. In order to help and guide all of you, we’re going to post VOCABULARY BASED ON THE HINDU NEWSPAPER. In all the competitive exams, Vocabulary questions are asked from newspapers.

1.Succinctly
Meaning: Briefly
Synonym: Shortly, summarily
Antonym: permanently, verbosely
Sentence: Please state your case as succinctly as possible.



2.Implacable
Meaning: merciless
Synonym: cruel. unforgiving
Antonym: kind, remorseful
Sentence: Clinton accused congressional Republicans of “implacable hostility”.

3.Spurious
Meaning: not being what it purports to be; false or fake.
Synonym: specious, false, counterfeit, fraudulent
Antonym: authentic, genuine, real

4.Sonorous
Meaning:(of a person’s voice or other sound) imposingly deep and full.
Synonym: deep, clear, mellow, mellifluous, melodious, full-toned,
Antonym: serene, soothing, tranquil;
Sentence:”he read aloud with a sonorous and musical voice”

5.Ostentatious
Meaning: characterized by pretentious or showy display; designed to impress.
Synonym: showy, pretentious, conspicuous, obtrusive,
Antonym: plain, unobtrusive, restrained, modest
Sentence:”a simple design that is glamorous without being ostentatious”

6.Solicit
Meaning: ask for or try to obtain (something) from someone, accost 
someone and offer one’s or someone else’s services as a prostitute.
Synonym: request, apply for, put in for, seek, beg, plead for,
Antonym: forewarn, ward (off), warn; drive (away or off), repulse, turn away
Sentence: “he called a meeting to solicit their views”
“although prostitution was not itself an offence, soliciting was”

7.Allure
Meaning: Appeal
Synonym: attraction, charm, glamor
Antonym: repulsion
Sentence: They allure and baffle us, as the smile on the lips of the Mona Lisa.

8.Besotted
Meaning: Very Drunk
Synonym: Buzzed, drunk
Antonym: Sober, straight
Sentence: I had traveling money and got besotted in the bar downstairs

9.Sinuous
Meaning: having many curves and turns.
Synonym: windy, serpentine, curving, twisting
Antonym: straight
Sentence: “the river follows a sinuous trail through the dale”

10.Altercation
Meaning:  a noisy argument or disagreement, especially in public.
Synonym: argument, quarrel, squabble, fight,
Sentence:”I had an altercation with the ticket collector”
