Hello, Greetings!! SSC CGL Pre 2017 will commence in the month of June/July 2017. In order to help and guide all of you, we’re going to post VOCABULARY BASED ON THE HINDU NEWSPAPER. In all the competitive exams, Vocabulary questions are asked from newspapers. 

1.Presage
Meaning: be a sign or warning of (an imminent event, typically an unwelcome one)., an omen or portent.
Synonym: augur, foreshadow, foretell, prophesy,
Sentence:”the heavy clouds above the moorland presaged snow”

2.Prestige
Meaning: widespread respect and admiration felt for someone or something on the basis of a perception of their achievements or quality.
Synonym: status, standing, stature
Sentence: “the firm has recently gained considerable prestige.

3.Presumptuous
Meaning:(of a person or their behaviour) failing to observe the limits of what is permitted or appropriate.
Synonym: brazen, overconfident, arrogant, egotistical,
Antonym: timid, unassuming
Sentence: “I hope I won’t be considered presumptuous if I offer some advice”

4.Pretentious
Meaning: attempting to impress by affecting greater importance or merit than is actually possessed.
Synonym: affected, ostentatious,
Antonym: natural, unaffected
Sentence: “pretentious art films”

5.Prognostication
Meaning: the action of prophesying future events.
Synonym: prediction, forecast, prophecy, divination
Sentence:”an unprecedented amount of soul-searching and prognostication”

6.Prelude
Meaning: an action or event serving as an introduction to something more important.
Synonym: preliminary, overture, opening, preparation
Antonym:conclusion, postscript
Sentence: “a ceasefire had been agreed as a prelude to full peace negotiations”

7.Premonition
Meaning: a strong feeling that something is about to happen, especially something unpleasant.
Synonym: foreboding, presage, presentiment, prognostication
Sentence: “he had a premonition of imminent disaster”

8.Preponderance
Meaning: the quality or fact of being greater in number, quantity, or importance.
Synonym: prevalence, predominance, dominance 
Sentence: “the preponderance of women among older people”

9.Preposterous
Meaning: contrary to reason or common sense; utterly absurd or ridiculous.
Synonym: absurd, ridiculous, foolish, stupid, ludicrous
Antonym: reasonable, sensible
Sentence: “a preposterous suggestion”

10.Prerogative
Meaning: a right or privilege exclusive to a particular individual or class.
Synonym: entitlement, right, privilege, advantage
Sentence: “in some countries, higher education is predominantly the 
prerogative of the rich”
