First Made-in-India COVID-19 Test Kit by Mylab Gets Commercial Approval

First Made-in-India COVID-19 Test Kit: As the cases due to the pandemic in India rise to 500, the urgent need is to accelerate the testing process to identify as many positive cases as possible. In order to fast track the process of testing, the government has commercially approved the Covid-19 test kit made by Mylab. The kit can act as a breakthrough to fast track the mechanism for testing and combat the spread of this fatal disease by identifying more positive cases.

Mylab Discovery Solutions is a Pune based laboratory that has developed India’s first indigenous novel coronavirus testing kit with the capacity of detecting the infection within 2.5 hours as compared to 7 hours taken by the current protocols. The test kit is the first ”Made in India” kit to receive commercial approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and is named as Mylab PathoDetect COVID-19 Qualitative PCR kit. The PathoDetect can screen up to 100 samples in a single run and has assured to conduct up to 1 lakh tests in a week. The Covid-19 testing kit was made with the support of the local and central government as per the guidelines issued by the WHO/CDC and would cost approximately one-fourth of the current cost.

Till now, the Indian Council of Medical Research has given its nod to two manufactures out of nine for the test kits to be used in the private laboratories namely Altona Diagnostics and MY LAB. Apart from the government laboratories, 12 private laboratories with the chain of 15,000 labs across India have been given approval to conduct the Covid-19 tests. The maximum cost for testing of the sample have been capped at Rs 4500.
