difference between a two digit number and the number obtained by interchanging

the two digit of the number is 9. What is the difference between the two digits

of the number?

(a) 3

(b) 2

(c) 1

(d) Can’t be

determined

determined

S1. Ans.(c)

Sol. Suppose the number is 10x + y.

(10 x + y) – (10y + x) = 9

9x – 9y = 9

Required difference = x – y = 1

Q2. The difference between a number and 1/7 of that number is same as the sum of all the angles of a triangle. What is the number?

(a)240

(b)210

(c)175

(d)225

Q3. In every 30 minutes, the time of a watch increases by 3 minutes. What time will the watch show after 6 hours when the current time is 12:30 pm?

(a)7 : 06 pm

(b)7 pm

(c)6 : 56 pm

(d)6 : 45 pm

S3. Ans.(a)

Sol. Total increase in 6 hours = 6 x 2 x 3 = 36 minutes

Hence, after 6 hours from 12: 30 pm,

Actual time will be 6:30 pm + 36 minutes = 7: 06 pm

Q4. The diameter of a cycle wheel is 70 cm. A cyclist takes 30 hrs to reach a destination at the speed of 22 km/h. How many revolutions will the wheel make during this journey ?

(a) 3 million

(b) 3 lakhs

(c) 4 lakhs

(d) 4 million

Q5. A and B can do a piece of work in 45 and 40 days respectively. They began the work together but A left after some days and B finished the remaining work in 23 days. A left after

(a) 6 days

(b) 9 days

(c) 12 days

(d) 5 days

Q7. An open box is made of wood 2 cm thick. Its internal dimension is 86 cm × 46 cm × 38 cm. What is the cost of painting the outer surface of this box @ Rs. 10 per m

^{2}?(a) Rs. 12.35

(b) Rs. 8.85

(c) Rs. 15.70

(d) Rs. 16.50

S7. Ans.(c)

Sol. Outer dimensions will be as follows:

Length = 86 + 4 = 90 cm, Breadth = 46 + 4 = 50 cm

and Height h = 38 + 2 = 40 cm

So, the area of outer surface = l × b + 2 × l × h + 2 × b × h

= 4500 + 7200 + 4000

= 15700 cm

^{2 }= 1.57 m^{2}So, the cost of painting 1.57 × 10 = Rs.15.7

Q8. Two pillars of equal height stand on either side of a road. At a point on the road between the pillars the elevation of the tops of the pillars are 60° and 30°. Find the height of the pillars if it is given that the width of the road is 150 m.

(a) 64.87

(b) 62.34

(c) 78

(d) 66

Q9. By multiplying with which of the following numbers does the product of 8 × 9 × 10 × 11 × 12 become a perfect square?

(a) 55

(b) 11

(c) 165

(d) 310

S9. Ans.(c)

Sol. Let the number is x

Hence, x × 8 × 9 × 10 × 11 × 12 = x × 2

^{6}×3^{2}×3×5×11Here we can say that for being a perfect square, x should be 3 × 5 × 11 = 165

Q10. An article is sold at a loss of 10%. Had it been sold for Rs. 9 more, there would have been a gain of 12½% on it, then what is the cost price of the article?

(a) Rs. 74

(b) Rs. 60

(c) Rs. 40

(d) Rs. 80

Q11. The ratio of the ages of a father and his son 10 years hence will be 5 : 3, while 10 years ago, it was 3 : 1. The ratio of the age of the son to that of the father today, is

(a) 1 : 2

(b) 1 : 3

(c) 2 : 3

(d) 2 : 5

Q13. A bicycle wheel makes 5000 revolutions in moving 11 km. What is the radius of the wheel?

(a) 70 cm

(b) 135 cm

(c) 17.5 cm

(d) 35 cm

S13. Ans.(d)

Sol. Let the radius of the wheel be = r

Then 5000 × 2πr = 1100000 cm ⇒ r = 35 cm
