Q2. Two numbers are in ratio 5 : 8, If their difference is 48, then the smallest numbers is
(a) 64

Sol. 8n – 5n = 48
3n = 48
n = 16
Small = 16 × 5

= 80

Q3. The sides of a triangle are in the ratio of 7 : 9 : 12. The difference between the lengths of largest and smallest sides is 15 cm. The length of the largest sides would be:

Q5. Divide 27 into two parts so that 5 times the first and 11 times the second together equals to 195. Then ratio of the first and second parts is

Sol. Let the first part is = x
second part is = y
According to the question,
5x + 11y = 195 …(i)
x + y = 27 …(ii)
Solve equation (i) and (ii)
x = 17
y = 10

∴x/y=17/10

Q6. The current ages of Sonali and Monali are in the ratio 5 : 3. Five years from now, their ages will be in the ratio 10 : 7. Then, Monali’s current age is:

Sol. Let,
⇒ Sonali’s age = 5x
⇒ Monali’s age = 3x
According to the question,
⇒(5x+5)/(3x+5)=10/7
⇒(x+3)/(3x+5)=2/7
⇒ 7x + 7 = 6x + 10
⇒ x = 3
⇒ So Monali’s present age = 3x
= 3 × 3 = 9 years

Q7. The ratio of the ages of two persons is 4 : 7 and the age of one of them is greater than that of the other by 30 years. The sum of their ages (in years) is

x = 10 years

Sol. Let C get x rupees
∴ B get x + 6 rupees

B get = 19 + 6 = Rs. 25
C get = Rs. 19

Q13. The ratio of the length of a school ground to its width is 5 : 2. If the width is 40m, then the length is
