62nd Filmfare Awards 2017: Shatrughan Sinha honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award

i. Shatrughan Sinha, who completed close to five decades in the film industry, was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 62nd Jio Filmfare Awards 2017.

ii. The award, which is his first Filmfare, was presented to him by daughter and actress Sonakshi Sinha.

i. At the glittering Filmfare awards(14th January 2017 night), “Dangal” swept away three of four major awards — Best Film, Aamir Khan won Best Actor and Nitesh Tiwari won Best Director award while Alia Bhatt won the Filmfare Best Actor Award (Female) for her performance in “Udta Punjab”.

Prasar Bharti hosts International Television Dance Festival in Hyderabad

i.The first edition of Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) International Television Dance Festival was held in Hyderabad the city with royal patronage for arts, literature, and architecture, on January 15, 2017.

Tamil Nadu Gov launched mobile app ‘pinakin’ for Tourism

i.For the benefit of both domestic and international tourists, Tamil Nadu Tourism Department has launched a mobile app ‘pinakin’ with information on tourism in Tamil Nadu with audio facilities.

ii.The app, in two languages Tamil and English which covers world heritage tourist sites like Mamallapuram, Thanjavur Big Temple, Gangaikonda Cholapuram and Darasuram.

iii.The app can be downloaded free of cost from iStore or Playstore.

58th India International Garment Fair held in New Delhi

i.The 58th edition of India International Garment Fair, IIGF held in New Delhi.

ii. Organized by Apparel Export Promotion Council India, the event is one of the largest and most popular platforms in Asia, from which overseas garment buyers can source products and forge business relationships with India’s finest players in the apparel and fashion accessories domain.

Manipur’s Karang is India’s first cashless island

i.The Union ministry of electronics and information technology under its Digital India program announced Karang as the first cashless island in India.

ii.The Karang island is located in the middle of Loktak, the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India.
