Prime Minister announces Economic Package of Rs 20 Lakh Crore

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi addressed his countrymen and announced an Economic Package of Rs 20 Lakh crore, giving stress on land, labour, liquidity and law. Details of the Economic Package will be revealed very shortly by the Ministry of Finance. This package will intend to support farmers, labourers, fishermen, migrants and the industry of the country. Through this package, PM announced to ensure the rural India from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Economic Relief Package announced for “Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced the details of the Economic Relief Package for “Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” amid COVID-19 pandemic. This economic package of Rs 20 lakh crore has been announced with the prime objective of making India self-reliant.

Jharkhand’s Sohrai Khovar painting & Telangana’s Telia Rumal gets GI-Tag

The Sohrai Khovar painting of Jharkhand and Telia Rumal of Telangana have received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag from the Geographical Indications Registry. For the Sohrai Khovar painting of Jharkhand, application of GI-tag was made by Sohrai Kala Mahila Vikas Sahyog Samiti Limited. For the Telia Rumal of Telangana, application of GI-tag was made by Consortium of Puttapaka Handloom Cluster-IHDS.

Gujarat mandates digital payment for home delivery in Ahmedabad

The Gujarat government has mandated the digital payment for all home delivery services in Ahmedabad. This step has been taken by the state government in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 through currency notes. Therefore, the payment of all the home delivery services in the city would be cashless i.e. via digital mode of payment. Hence the Cash On delivery (COD) option will not be available to the customers.

Manoj Ahuja becomes new chairman of CBSE

Odisha cadre IAS, Manoj Ahuja has been appointed the new chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). He is currently served as Special Director, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Department of Personnel and Training. He will replace Anita Karwal as the chairman of the CBSE.

Sania Mirza becomes 1st Indian to win Fed Cup Heart Award

Indian tennis player Sania Mirza becomes 1st Indian to win Fed Cup Heart Award 2020 for Asia/Oceania zone. She beats Indonesia’s 16-year-old Priska Madelyn Nugroho for this category & received the award for her successful return to the court after becoming a mother.

DW Freedom of Speech Award 2020 announced

17 journalists from 14 countries have been named for Deutsche Welle Freedom of Speech Award 2020 for showing “outstanding commitment to human rights and freedom of expression in the media”. Indian journalist Siddharth Varadarajan is among the 17 recipients.

Video conference held on “Tribal livelihoods and safety”

A video conference was held by the Minister of Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda on “Tribal livelihoods and safety”. The conference was held with States/UTs in New Delhi. The conference featured the participation of Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, State Ministers for Tribal Affairs and state ministers for Forests from more than 20 states/UTs.

TDB & CII organises Digital Conference “RE-START”

Technology Development Board (TDB) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) have jointly organised a Digital Conference “RE-START”. The digital conference “RE-START (Reboot the Economy through Science, Technology and Research Translations)” was addressed by Union Minister of Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and Health & Family Welfare, Harsh Vardhan. The conference was organised on the occasion of National Technology Day.

Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) has organised the Indo-Bangladesh “Virtual Conference”. Union DoNER Minister of State (I/C) Dr Jitendra Singh addressed the virtual conference. FIFA postpones U-17 Women’s World Cup India to 2021

FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2020 has been postponed to 2021 due to coronavirus pandemic. FIFA-Confederations Covid-19 Working Group has taken the decision to hold the U-17 Women’s World Cup in India from February 17-March 7, 2021. Japan and North Korea have qualified from the two available slots for Asian teams, with India qualifying for the main tournament as hosts.

China team wins FIDE chess.com Online Nations Cup

China has won the 1st edition of FIDE Chess.com Online Nations Cup against the USA. In the finals, China faced the USA which ended in a draw with 2-2. China was adjudged the winner on the basis of its topping the points table in the round-robin stage.

US comedian Jerry Stiller passes away

US comedian Jerry Stiller passed away recently. He was renowned for his recurring role as George Costanza’s father on TV’s Seinfeld for which he was also nominated for Emmy Awards in 1997. His other popular roles includes that of Arthur Spooner in TV sitcom “The King of Queens”. He received joint star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame along with his wife Meara in year 2007.

TV actor Shafique Ansari passes away

TV actor Shafique Ansari passed away. He was best-known for his appearance in TV series ‘Crime Patrol’. He was a member of the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) since 2008. Apart from being an actor, he was a screenwriter and an assistant director too. He is one of the screenwriters of Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini’s 2003 film ‘Baghban’.

Former TT national champion Manmeet Singh passes away

Former India national table tennis champion Manmeet Singh Walia passed away. He became the national champion in 1989 when he beat S. Sriram in the men singles final at Hyderabad. He had represented the nation at multiple international events after making his debut at the Asian Championships in 1980.
