The Bihar Board Class 10 examinations 2020 were held from 17 to 24 February. More than 15 lakh students appeared in the examination. The results were scheduled to be announced by March but the evaluation of more than 15.29 lakh answer sheets was postponed till 3 May due to the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown. The evaluation process began on 6 May.

As part of the toppers’ scrutiny process, the Bihar Board conducts a second round of thorough testing of the students’ answer sheets. As part of this process, answer sheets of students who have been termed as toppers after the first round of evaluation, have been taken to the Board’s office for the second round of checking.

Passing Marks

To pass the examination, a student must score at least 30% of marks to be declared passed in the matric examination. Thus, a student needs to secure at least 30 marks out of 100 and an aggregate of 150 marks in total to pass the Class 10 Bihar Board exams.

The student has to pass in all subjects except English and optional subject (optional subject) to be declared a pass. In practical subjects including social science and science, a student has to pass in both theory and internal assessment (literacy activity and project work) altogether obtaining at least 30 marks out of 100.

Grace Marks Policy

To improve the pass percentage, the Bihar Board had adopted the grace marks policy for the class 10th candidates. If a student fails in one subject by 8 or less percent or in two subjects by not more than 4 percent in each, then the student will be given the marks and promoted to the next class. If a student scores a total of 75 percent (aggregate) and fails in any one subject by less than 10 percent, then the student will be promoted.

The candidates will have to score between 225 to 300 to secure the first division in the exam. In 2019 Bihar Board 10th Result, the topper Savan Raj Bharti had scored 97.2 percent marks.

Availability of Marksheet

Students will be able to get the mark sheets in September. “The mark sheets get printed in Delhi, and the process will start once lockdown lifted. The students of both matric and intermediate can get their mark sheets by September,” chairman Anand Kishore said earlier. Last year, the Bihar Board Class 10 Result pass percentage was 80.73 percent.
