7 Lakh Vacant Government Posts: Recently Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh provided the information that as of 1 March 2018, 6,83,823 posts were vacant, the total number of posts in these departments is 38,02,779, while only 31,18,956 employees are serving. These posts were vacant due to retirement, resignations, death and promotion. He stated that all the vacant posts are recruited under various rules, departments and organizations are filling up of vacancies in a regular process. In the report released by the Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it has directed all the central ministries and departments to fill up the existing vacant posts. The meeting was held on December 23, 2019.
The maximum recruitment of 1,16 391 has to be done in Railway Recruitment Board where as SSC has 13,995 and UPSC is having 4,399 vacancies. Recruitment agencies like SSC, RRB and Postal Service Board and Ministry of Defense are constantly in the process of filling 310,832 posts. It also includes 27,652 posts of defense civilians. All Ministries and Departments have been requested to fill the vacant posts within the stipulated time.
The biggest employer, Indian Railways, had nearly 2.5 Lakh vacant posts in 2018 and Defence Sector had about 1.9 Lakh vacant posts in the data released by the government. As stated by the government, the total number of employees has continuously decreased since 2014 while the number of sanctioned posts has seen a rise by almost 1.57 Lakh.
3.9 Crore Applications were received by Railways for 2.8 Lakh Vacancies Since March 2018
The data comprising of the vacancies released and applications received by the railways since 2018 has been given below. Till date, the recruitment process of RRB ALP has only been completed by the RRB. Aspirants are still waiting for the declaration of exam dates for RRB NTPC and RRC Group C, the notification for which was released in February and March 2019 respectively.

With this news, aspirants preparing for the government job examinations for the past few years can have a sigh of relief as the recruitment process for many vacancies is expected to be completed this year. We can only hope that better measures are taken to curb unemployment are taken in future and aspirants achieve their goal of getting a government job.
