67th Bihar Public Service Commission Exam Pattern and Syllabus

Bihar Public Service Commission, the state service commission for Bihar, conducts the examination almost every year, in order to fill the vacancies of group B officers in Bihar. Lakhs of students apply for this examination and aspire to be officers.

This year to BPSC has released the most awaited examination notification. A total of 555 vacancies are to be filled through this examination. Vacancies are in 15 different departments which include Bihar Administrative Service, Revenue Service, Labour Resource department and many more. The maximum number of vacancies are to be filled for Village development Officer which is 133 in number, followed by Municipal officer with 110 total vacancies. 174 seats are reserved for women.

Bihar Public Service Commission: Exam Pattern

Bihar CCE or BPSC is conducted along similar lines to the UPSC CSE. The exam comprises of three stages as given below:

General Mental Ability



Salient features of BPSC Pre exam pattern –

  1.       Stage 1 or Prelims is a screening test.
  2.       Candidates have to apply Online before the last date mentioned in the notification issued by the Commission.
  3.       The Prelims Exam comprises One paper (General Studies).
  4.       The Prelims exam is for a total of 150 marks and the duration of the exam is 2 hours.
  5.       All the questions in the Prelims exam will be of objective type (MCQ).
  6.       There is no negative marking in BPSC prelims.

After Clearing the Pre exam, one has to fill DAF form and then sit for the mains exam. The marks scored in mains are added with the interview score to prepare the merit list. 

Questions of General Studies are available in Hindi and English both.

  1. The score will be arrived at by considering the total of 900 marks in GS Paper 1, GS Paper 2, and Optional Paper.
  2. The candidates who are placed suitably in the merit are called for the interview.
  3. There is no negative marking in the descriptive question papers.
  4. Candidates need to attempt all the papers to qualify for the Interview round.
  5. This round is both scoring and qualifying in nature.

Bihar Public Service Commission: Mains Exam

The paper of General Hindi is qualifying in nature. The syllabus of this paper is of the level as that of the Bihar School Education Board (BSEB). The paper is of 100 marks and subjective in nature, and the marks distribution is given below:

  1. Essay: 30 Marks
  2. Grammar: 30 Marks
  3. Syntax: 25 Marks
  4. Summarisation: 15 Marks

Out of the 100 marks, candidates are required to secure the qualifying marks in the paper. For this qualifying paper, a good book of school standards is enough.

The Hindi paper is only a qualifying paper with minimum passing criteria of 30 marks (out of 100). The marks in Hindi will not be counted for the overall merit.

Bihar Public Service Commission: Interview

The candidates selected in order of merit on the results of the Main Exam shall have to appear for the final and last stage of the BPSC Exam i.e. Personality Test. Each candidate will be asked questions on matters of general interest. The objective of the test will be to assess the candidate’s personal qualities e.g., alertness of mind, power of clear and logical exposition, intellectual and moral integrity, leadership, and also the candidate’s range of interests.
