-The Union Ministry of Railways has launched three passenger service initiatives namely- a Janani Sewa for mothers, optional catering in Rajdhani, and Shatabdi trains on a pilot basis and a children’s menu on trains.
-These services have been launched by Union Railways minister Suresh Prabhu in New Delhi.
-Under this scheme hot milk, hot water, and baby food will be available at railway stations. Initially on a pilot basis this scheme will be available at 25 railway stations including New Delhi, Howrah, Mumbai, Chennai, Surat, and Lucknow.
Highest civilian award of Ivory coast
-President Pranab Mukherjee has been awarded the highest civilian award of Ivory Coast, ‘the National Grand Crois’.
-His visit is the first ever high-level visit from India to Ivory Coast. He was invited by Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara.
-Jal Marg Vikas is a project on the river Ganga that is being developed between Allahabad and Haldia to cover a distance of 1620 kilometers.
-The project is being implemented with technical and investment support from World Bank and would be completed over a period of six years at an estimated cost of 4200 crore rupees.
Aadhaar enabled ATM in Bengaluru
-DCB Bank has launched Bengaluru’s first ATM that accepts Aadhaar number and Aadhaar fingerprint (biometric) instead of ATM/Debit Card and PIN to dispense cash.
-The “cardless and PIN less” ATM was launched by former Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India, Nandan Nilekani.
-The Bank pilot launched India’s first aadhaar based ATM in Mumbai. This was followed by the launch of Aadhaar based ATM in Odisha and Punjab. The Bank also plans to upgrade all its 400 plus ATMs to provide Aadhaar-based functionality in the next six months or so.
-Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has flagged off India’s first timetabled freight train, named ‘Cargo Express’, from Delhi to Bengaluru.
-The move aims to reduce the delay and uncertainty over the time schedule for delivery of goods.
HRD minister Smriti Irani launches Vidyanjali in New Delhi
-Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani has launched Vidyanjali, a school volunteer programme in New Delhi.
-Through Vidyanjali, the government aspires to bring change in the quality of education in schools.
-Madhya Pradesh, 3,049 people registered their spot in the Guinness book of world records for performing largest Karma Naach dance ever.
-The people took part in the dance to celebrate the culture and history of the Gond tribes of central India. Organised by district administration association, the participants formed 61 large circles of 50 people and performed the traditional tribal dance in spectacular synchronicity.
“HelpAge SOS App”
-The “HelpAge SOS App” was launched by Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi at Raj Nivas.
-The app provides for an SOS-Save our Seniors button to immediately reach to the counsellor desk of Help Age for rendering emergency help and assistance, apart from health related information. It has 24×7 functionality and aims at helping elders in distress at any given time.
-The primary and first use of the App is to provide one-click emergency services to senior citizens.
-Every year, the World Blood Donor Day is being observed across the world on 14 June to raise the public awareness about the need for safe blood donation.
-For the year 2016 is – “Blood connects us all”. The theme highlights the common bond that all people share in their blood and slogan for 2016 is – “Share life, give blood”.

‘A new world’ – the Official slogan for Rio Olympics
-The Rio 2016 organising committee revealed the official slogan for the first Olympic and Paralympic Games in South America – “A new world”.
-Along with the Olympic torch, the medals and the mascots, the slogan plays a major part in creating the unique identity of each Olympic Games.
-For Rio 2016, the core values of the slogan and the manifesto are unity, respect for diversity and the will for change.
